Band/Artist/Musician of My Week/Month: Say Hi

I have been a fan of Say Hi for a very long time.  I remember the first time I saw Say Hi was in Phoenix, Arizona  in small venue called Modified Arts.  There was a handful of people and Eric Elbogen was an awesome one man show.  I did a lot of dancing and singing that night.

Early last yearEric Elbogen (Say Hi) put out Um, Uh Oh.  In my opinion this 7th album is one of the best to date.   Although his previous releases are still strong in their lo-fi stripped down form, this album sounds full and complete.  Elbogen’s vocals are direct and musically this album feels more cohesive.

I would compare Say HI (Elbogen) to author Raymond Carver because Elbogen uses just the right amount of tools (drum machine patterns, riffs, etc) to catch the listener and builds a strong and thoughtful piece of art whether he’s writing about broken hearts, the yesterdays and tomorrows, video games, girls,  or vampires.

The other night I heard Say Hi on NPR and everyone in the car didn’t know why I was so excited to be hearing Say Hi on the radio.  For that reason,  Say Hi is my artist of the week; Elbogen is my favorite 1 man show and he should be one of yours too.
