FREE MUSIC: ALIEN HOUSE
I haven’t done some free music in awhile. Alienhouse is a bunch of noise really but an agreeable noise full of effects, electronic percussion, and guitar that lets you delve into a lazed soundscape. This free 6-track album is a nicely done, mostly instrumental type narrative. According to their facebook they will be releasing a full length album “before the world ends,” which means you can expect some enticing tracks from them before the end of 2012.
MORE FREE MUSIC: WHALERS
I will be checking out this band Saturday night at Lambert’s in Austin, Texas. They are doing their CD release party for their album Paddle Easy. Whalers are currently one of my favorite local bands in Austin. They deliver a classic rock gritty sound, driven by a lot of emotion and excellent melodies.

Todos Somos Ilegales: We Are All Illegas Mixtape
Outernational uses the musical platform to voice the ongoing problems concerning the border. The album immediately opens with energy and intensity of soaring trumpets. Outernational is aggressive and forceful. The focus of the album is of course fueled by the injustices Senate Bill 1070 presents. Intertwined with amazing clips on immigration, “Todos Somos Ilegales: We Are All Illegas” is forthright, even humorous, musically sound, and of course, a passionate mix tape.
The message is clear: There is a war going on out there on the borders based strongly on prejudices and racism. It seems unfair, after all, there is a certain level of interconnectivity among people and different cultures that we cannot ignore. Perhaps a little blurring of borders would not be so bad. It’s time for a revolution.

BEST FREE ALBUMS of 2011: The Weeknd
I love free music. Especially good free music. If you haven’t done so already check out Abel Testfaye, better known as his stage name The Weeknd. He brings a new vibe to R&B with his hard-hitting sound and vocals. The result of this trilogy is some of the best free music.
