Review: Mixed Emotions by Tanlines
I have been addicted to Tanlines debut album, Mixed Emotions for the past few months. Mixed Emotions was released in mid-March and the band has released two music videos for the album. Their sound is familiar which does not leave room for uniqueness. The duo does not present anything that is not currently out there, however, that is not necessarily a bad thing because their album is catchy and maintains that electric-dance appeal. Their sound is warm and ‘80s-like; it is inviting while moving back and forth from an upbeat sound to a more mellow sound. As a whole there is just something missing from Mixed Emotions. I am not sure what it is other than the overall production. It’s not a a disappointing because lyrically I am in love and the title track is solid and catchy. Not to mention the music video is pretty awesome as you can pan around with its 360-degree view.
Key Tracks: Brothers and Not the Same
Chromatics (from Portland,Oregon) have released another video from their upcoming album Kill For Love. For the past few months the band has been leaking sounds off the track. There is no real word when it will be released but the tracks leaked have been pretty enticing. Their sound is a cross between lo-fi, electric, and rock. Chromatics bring a lot of different unique blends of sound.

Introducing Electric Guest
Electric Guest will be releasing their debut album Mondo April 24th and has been hailed by a few music critics as a band to watch in 2012. It is one of the bands I hope to check out during SXSW in March. Their current single is “This Head I Hold,” which is a mix between a mid-tempo funk and modern rock-pop is produced by Danger Mouse. But my favorite single out is “American Daydream,” the faint electronic sound is weaved together with an almost haunting rhythm. The two different singles make Mondo an anticipated album; it demonstrates Electric Guest can dabble on the different sides of spectrum.
